THE CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS
Community radio is a new phenomenon for Ethiopia. For the first time, theidea was raised and discussed at a symposium held at the Ghion hotel, AddisAbaba, January 2002 (HOACBP et al. 2002:1). Following the meeting, somecommunity groups were motivated to investigate its practicability. One wasHarar Community Radio (HCR), which this research paper has undertaken as acase study. The other two groups, which failed to establish community radio, were Gulele Community Radio Pilot Project and Sidama Educational RadioStation. -
